Are your children tired of having the same old lunch every single day?? Here are some great ideas for brown bag lunches.
--If you want to pack something that needs to stay cold, there is no need to pack an ice-pack. Just freeze a juice box or bottled water. It will keep the contents of lunch cold, and will thaw in time to drink for lunch.
--Even the same old sandwiches tast a little better when you use cookie cutters to cut out sandwiches in the shape of stars, hearts, etc.
--Think beyond sandwiches...cold pasta with cheese or even a healthy cereal with fruit can make a great lunch.
--When you are making dinner the night before, think about what can double as a lunch. Chicken can make chicken salad, a piece of beef can be cut up and rolled in a tortilla with cheese and vegetables.
--A sandwich doesn't always need bread..try crackers, tortillas, bagels, pita...anything for a little variety.
--In the winter, pack soup in a thermos for a warm, satisfying lunch.
--Get kids involved in the process, if they make their own lunch, they are much more likely to eat it.
--Try pancakes or waffles with bananas inside. Kids will feel like they are getting a treat and it is a healthy meal.
--Avoid the "dessert everyday" lunch. Kids may take a bite or two of a sandwich or pasta and go straight for the dessert. If they must have dessert, pack a miniature cake/cookie, etc.
--When in doubt, try cold pizza...most kids love it and it can provide some good calcium and protein.
--Tuck a note or sticker in their lunch... it's a nice surprise for them to get at school.
