Two of everything for twin babies?

Twin babies are definitely a handful, and a parent will need to accommodate them with twice the baby necessities.

Once you find out you are expecting twins, the first thought that enters your mind is: two of everything. While it is true that many baby items need to be duplicated, there are some things you can make do with only one.

Yes, you will need two car seats. That is a necessity. Maybe someday they will make twin car seats but for now going solo is the only option for your babies. Next to consider with a newborn is the bathtub. Little babies don't need to be washed very often while they can lie on their backs, so this is one of those things you can away with only one of. Two is only essential if you expect to always have help at bath time and you would like to make it quicker. When your babies can sit on their own in the bathtub, you will then need two bath seats to wash them together.

A stroller is a nice option for parents of twins. Many different twin strollers are available and this makes buying only one an issue. When you might consider two strollers is when your babies are past one year when umbrella strollers come in handy. There are some that sell for twins and are attached but it is nice to be able to stroll them alone on occasion.

Infant bouncer seats are a nice item to have two of, but only as a luxury. If you also have one infant swing you can alternate babies between the seat and the swing and they can have some variety. Though having them in bouncer seats together is quite fun as the seats can be placed closely and the babies will eventually come to understand they have a playmate the same age.

The infant swing is one I consider a necessity for twins and having two is essential if you will be alone caring for your twins much of the time. Most babies adore swinging and it gives parents a much needed break from their double duty.

Infant walkers or walker substitutes are also nice to have two of. Though the use of walkers is not recommended by medical professionals they are still available to purchase and this is an individual decision to make for a family.

Whether or not your twins share a crib or bassinet is also individual choice. However, having had twins myself I feel that twins should stay close beside one another for much of their baby years and on into toddler hood if possible. So while your babies are under six months, I would consider separate sleeping quarters unnecessary. After that, make the choice based on your own family's needs.
